Huge funeral held for Isfahan martyrs
TEHRAN – A huge number of mourners in the central city of Isfahan attended a funeral service for members of security forces who were martyred in the line of duty.
Videos and photos published by Iranian media showed a huge number of mourners in Isfahan taking part in the funeral service for three members of security forces who lost their lives during last week’s terrorist attack. Colonel Ismail Cheraghi, Mohammad Hossein Karimi, and Mohsen Hamidi were laid to rest in Isfahan’s Golestan Shohada.
The funeral started on Sunday morning from the city’s Bozorgmehr Square all the way to Golestan Shohada cemetery.
Simultaneously, the IRGC’s Isfahan branch announced Sunday that the terrorists implicated in the attack against security forces were arrested. According to the IRGC statement, the terrorists are “first-rate thugs” who are affiliated with the Hypocrites [MEK].
In Shiraz, the IRGC announced that it arrested two rioters carrying rifles.
Also, the police chief of Kermanshah province has said that a 22-year-old rioter has been arrested by police and confessed to killing a member of security forces in Sahneh County, Kermanshah.
Earlier, funeral services were held on Saturday for several security forces who were martyred in the line of duty during last weekend's riots across the country. Thousands of people in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan province, took part in the funeral held for Colonel Hassan Yousefi who was martyred during the unrest in the city. In Shiraz, a similar funeral was held for a cleric who was martyred by rioters in Ma’ali Abad neighborhood. The cleric, Mohammad Mo’ayedi, was hit in the head by a Molotov cocktail on Tuesday.
Over the last two months, Iran has been gripped by a wave of unrest that erupted in the wake of the death of Mahsa Amini. Dozens of people and security forces were killed in the ensuing violence.
In the meantime, security forces have been busy hunting down rioters across the country. In Boukan, the police chief of the northwestern city said Sunday that elements behind shooting people had been arrested.
On Sunday, security forces also purged the northwestern city of Mahabad from rioters. According to Iranian media reports, security forces entered the restive city on Saturday night and arrested the rioters and restored order.
